Along with improving skills, students will also work on both intra/inter personal skills during game play, aimed at help them to become the best team member that they can be. These include:
- How to win and lose graciously
- How to be persistent and resilient when things are challenging
- How to resolve conflict with a teammate or opponent in a calm manner
- How to measure both personal and team success
In line with the schools’ Rights and Respectful Relationships Program, and in conjunction with the schools new wellbeing program, ‘The Resilience Project’, students have a wellbeing focus each term, which links PE to their classrooms. This varies from term to term and there is a separate focus for Junior Years (P-2) and Middle- Senior Years (3-6).
We pride ourselves on providing all of our students with a wide variety of sports and activities including but not limited to:
Junior (P-2):
Athletics, Scooter Ed, Parkour, Throwing & Catching, Striking, Kicking, Bouncing, Wheelchair Activities and Minor Games. Students in Foundation also participate in the Perceptual Motor Program (PMP).
Middle/Senior (3-6):
Athletics, Lacrosse, Net & Wall Games, Wheelchair Games, Invasion Games, SEPEP Soccer, Target Games and Skateboard Ed.
The school also runs major Physical Education events such as the MGPS Athletics Day and MGPS Cross Country. These are a fantastic opportunity to not only showcase our students’ skills but a chance to bring the Maiden Gully community together. These events usually take place at the end of Term One or in the first few weeks of Term Two.
Students in Grades 4-6 also have the opportunity to represent the school at a wide range of district, division & regional events including: athletics, cross country, swimming, tennis, football, soccer, basketball, netball & cricket.
MGPS prides itself on a well-rounded Physical Education Program that caters for all students.
We are looking forward to wonderful year in PE in 2025!Year Level Sport Program
Year 2-6 students enjoy weekly Year Level Sport that allows students to play minor and major games in an enjoyable team environment.
At Maiden Gully Primary, a ‘family’ and community atmosphere is strongly valued. Our weekly sport helps to foster a stronger sense of connectedness amongst our students and year levels. |
Perceptual Motor Program
Foundation
PMP is part of our Physical Education Program for Foundation students in addition to their normal P.E. sessions. The students receive one session of PMP each week with the aim of connecting sport to their classrooms and the word around them. Through this program, students learn and practice abilities such as balance, left and right, and basic body movements such as jumping, hopping, skipping and running. |
